In several automotive magazines such as the American publications, Car and Driver, Autosport, Topspeed and in several other conventional media, the future Mid Engine Corvette could be available in a hybrid version with 1,000 horsepower.
According to Top Speed magazine, the Chevrolet Mid Engine Corvette is no longer a rumour, as expert journalists have already spotted some prototypes tested on public roads. For its part, Sportauto magazine isn’t surprised that engineers are preparing the ground for the C-8 as the C-7 is at the end of its life cycle.
The Corvette engines
The next version of Corvette will incorporate a lot of new features and will have a central rear engine. Four engines are a possbility, with the basic version that will keep its sportiness with the usual V-8 and 500 horsepower. Three other versions where Chevrolet will add its more powerful V-8 600 horsepower, another version of the same engine with 2 turbos to reach 800 horsepower, and the famous hybrid version.
We’d use the V-8 biturbo version with 800 horsepower, to which we’d add an electric version with 200 horsepower on the front axle.
Performance buzz
Others would like to see the V-8 with not only 600 horsepower, but 650 instead, and 850 horsepower instead of 800. In principle, the hybrid version should exceed 1000 horsepower. A mythical engine in a mythical car is the perfect combination to make the competition feel pressure.
Detroit Auto Show
In theory, we could finally discover the new Corvette C-8 at the next Detroit Auto Show on January 19, 2019, but nothing is confirmed at the moment ...
