March 8 was International Women's Day. To follow up on this important day and continue to celebrate women, we're shining the spotlight on one of our employees who makes a positive difference at the dealership every day. It's an opportunity to celebrate her achievements, resilience and impact, while continuing to promote gender equality in the automotive industry and beyond. In that spirit, we're honored to introduce Mélina Racine, Sales Director at Chevrolet Buick GMC in L'Île-Perrot, who, through a short questionnaire, sheds light on her inspiring journey and unique perspectives.
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in the automotive industry?
My father always had a passion for cars. He switched cars almost every year, and over the years he managed to pass this passion on to me. As soon as I had the opportunity in 2013 to start in the business, that's when I knew I'd make it my career.
2. How could the representation of women in management and leadership positions benefit the automotive industry as a whole?
With more female representatives/directors in dealerships, we attract more female customers. I've noticed that they often feel more comfortable being served by a woman. It's less intimidating for them!
3. Can you share a memorable success or achievement you've achieved in your career in the automotive industry?
I started in the automotive industry at just 18 years old as a new vehicles sales representative. My goal was to learn and work my way up. However, pre-owned vehicles were a real passion for me and, after 2 years of hard work, I was promoted to Pre-Owned Sales Manager despite my young age. Today, I'm a new vehicle sales manager and I'm very happy and proud of it!
4. What advice would you give to young women aspiring to enter the automotive industry?
Stay strong, confident and follow your passions.
5. What changes or advances do you foresee in the future of the automotive industry, particularly as regards the role of women?
Greater openness, especially at the level of mechanics and detailing centers, where we're seeing more and more young women with very promising futures!
