Last year, it was the Chevrolet Tahoe’s turn to receive the RST (Rally Sport Truck) version and now it's the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban’s turn.
Above all, the RST group aims for better performance and is already featured on the Cadillac Escalade. The RST version offers 420 hp and an impressive 460 lb-ft of torque. The small 5.3-liter V-8 is replaced by a 6.2-liter engine and is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban RST options
As mentioned earlier, the engine has been replaced with a more powerful one and will be available with rear wheel 4WD drive. The RST package is also equipped with magnetorheological dampers (whose viscous properties change according to a magnetic field) and 22-inch wheels. It’s also possible to replace the brakes with more powerful brake rotors fitted with 6-piston calipers (an 84% increase in pad area and a 42% increase in system heat capacity). Magnetorheological suspension, commonly called Magnetic Ride Control, gives the vehicle a smoother ride as the active unit reduces roll in cornering.
As with the Tahoe RST, performance improvements will be available only for Suburban models already equipped with the RST package introduced last year, which adds 22-inch wheels, black bowtie emblems, black mirror caps, and a gloss-black grille without mechanical improvements.
What the specialists like
Specialists like the 0-100 km/h in 6 seconds with the Tahoe. Despite the Suburban’s somewhat larger size, we should expect similar results, which should enhance the world of comfort of the Suburban.
The Suburban RST is also expected to have a towing capacity of 8,100 pounds. Full performance metrics will be announced closer to launch.
