Everything under the roof is brand-new, including the powertrains and scary-big grille
Chevrolet just pulled the covers off of its 2020 Silverado HD, and the new truck boasts incredible power numbers, an all-new body and one scary-looking grill.
Chevy was proud to say the new truck shares only a roof with the Silverado 1500, which means the rest of the body is all-new.
There are some subtle changes like cut-outs in the box that allow you to step up to retrieve items from the bed – sort of like a classic step-side truck – which Chevy calls “Bedsteps.”
The most obvious change is that massive new grill, which makes it look properly aggressive. Stacked headlights flank the large intake while a giant crossbar sees the CHEVROLET name emblazoned across it. The turn signals and running lights sit above the crossbar.
Two new powertrains are offered in the 2020 Silverado HD: the first will be a gas-powered V8 mated to a six-speed automatic, and that’s the only information Chevy is willing to share about that one.
The other engine is a Duramax turbodiesel that makes 910 lb-ft of torque, the same amount as the current Silverado HD engine makes, but Chevy said this engine is all-new, so it might be an updated version of the old 6.6-litre. This engine will be paired to a 10-speed automatic.
That’s about all Chevrolet felt like sharing, so we’ll have to wait until the full reveal to learn more. The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will officially debut in February of 2019 and will go on sale mid-2019.
