GM to Install 40,000 New EV Chargers in Canada, U.S.

After launching a new Ultium 360 platform that provides easy access to over 60,000 EV chargers across North America, General Motors announced on Tuesday it wants to develop its own network in Canada and the U.S.

The plan is to install as many as 40,000 level-2 (240V) chargers in local communities including in underserved, rural and urban areas where EV charging access is often limited.
You will find them in various workplaces, on campuses, around sports and entertainment venues and even at multi-unit dwellings. These charging stations will be available to all EV customers, not just those who purchase a GM vehicle.

The project will begin next year and GM dealers will be called upon to help install these chargers within their respective communities.

GM's family of Ultium chargers will include an 11.5 kilowatt/48-amp smart charger, 11.5 kW/48-amp premium smart charger and 19.2 kW/80-amp premium smart charger.

All three feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability and dynamic load balancing. What’s more, they can be upgraded over time through over-the-air updates. The two premium models include a customizable touchscreen and an embedded camera.
