This year, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has been present at all major car and van events.
This increased presence for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has served as a launching pad to unveil the new, expanded range of Silverado Class 4, 5 and 6 chassis cab trucks, the 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD. They burst on the scene at the Work Truck Show organized by the National Truck Equipment Association in Indianapolis this week.
Classification of the Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD
According to the Ministry of Transport's truck classification system, the Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD are considered medium, but they’re certainly the heaviest Silverados you can buy, but different from the heavy class 7 and 8 trucks that typically require a commercial driver's license. In addition, the Silverado 6500 HD has a maximum weight of 22,500 pounds and no other manufacturer offers a similar vehicle at this level.
A 10-year absence
Chevrolet's new trucks are returning to this market segment after an absence of nearly 10 years. They’re equipped with Allison transmissions and a 6.6-liter HP V-8 Duramax turbodiesel engine and 700 lb-ft of torque. Both two- and four-wheel drive versions will be available with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Silverado will also be offered with 7 cab length options, with 60 to 160 inches from the cab to the axle. Finally, unlike other manufacturers, the new Silverado uses straight, single-piece frame rails that are factory-painted to help prevent rust and have fuel lines routed within them for tidier packaging. The rivets and brackets have been placed at the top of the rails to provide a clean, smooth surface for easy adjustment.
The production of the new 2019 Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD will begin by the end of 2018!
