The Chevrolet Bolt is considered one of the most important models in the electric vehicle segment, a segment that is experiencing strong growth at the moment. The Bolt was not the first electric car to come to North America, that is true, but it was certainly the first affordable, long-range electric car to see the light of day.
With 383 kilometres of range when for less than $43,000, the Chevrolet Bolt proved at the time that it was possible to get a long-range electric vehicle with a reasonable starting price. The Bolt also forced automakers to improve their EV products because at the time it went on sale, the majority of other electric vehicles offered no better than 200 kilometres. There was the Tesla Model S, but it was three times the price.
Today, there are many electric vehicles on the market and they offer much more generous range of prices. The Nissan LEAF Plus offers 363 kilometres while the Kia Soul EV, Hyundai Kona EV and the Tesla Model 3 offer more than 400 kilometres. Chevrolet is back this year with a range of 417 kilometres for its Chevrolet Bolt, 34 kilometres more than last year’s Bolt model. The best news here is that, despite having better battery life than any of the models mentioned previously including some versions of the Tesla Model 3, the Chevrolet Bolt starts at less than $45,000 which is the threshold for a vehicle to be eligible for discounts of up to $13,000.
Its fully electric engine develops 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque which means that its performance is superior to other electric vehicles offered at the same price. One test drive will prove that.
